Caledon Celebrates 8 Years in Secondlife

On February 26, 2006 a steampunk community appeared on the grid in the virtual world of Second Life. It was called The Independent State of Caledon.

Caledon is a rapidly growing group of Victorian-themed Estate Sims owned by Desmond Shang. Caledon can be considered an example of a developing micronation.

Eight years later there are thousands of friendships and memories, many actual marriages, a virtual university and an actual internet radio station named Radio Riel that all began in Caledon.

These Men are Insane

Beware men who sit in info hubs and play the guitar.  They are insane.

"Surely you can't mean that!" you protest "these are just simple artists!"

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present my case:

Lduane Resident
Mufferson
DigiD Domenitzo
Addie Braveheart
MonkeyCheese Resident
Country Magic

I don't claim that all men who play the guitar are insane and should be locked away: just the ones who play unsolicited at info hubs instead of clubs.

Linden Labs Drops Ballast

On Tuesday, Linden Labs announced they were ending development on Dio, Versu and Creatorverse.

The announcement itself isn't really a big deal.  Companies cull their product line all the time.  It's part of the natural cycle of business and works to keep companies healthy.

What is unusual is that this is a top level decision coming at a time when the man in the top level position has only worked for the company a little more than two weeks--hardly time to unpack his stationary.

The timing of this decision suggests to me a few options:

1) New CEO, Ebbe Altberg is SuperManager and knew instantly upon arrival what must be done.

2) New CEO, Ebbe Alterberg is an idiot and makes decisions without much thought.

3) The CEO is just a puppet and the company is really run by the Board of Directors.  (This is a common theory among Linden Lab watchers as longtime board member, Mitch Kapor has always had a very active role in the management of the company.

4) The CEO is just a puppet and the company is really run by middle management.  This situation is actually fairly common and not a horrible way to run a company.  Often middle management is much more informed and much more invested in the company than hired gun upper management.

Why I Won't Be Watching Bill Nye Debate Creationist

One thing many people don't know about the (now infamous) Bill Nye vs Ken Ham debate over creationism is that Ken Ham (Owner of Answers in Genesis) owns the Youtube Chanel hosting the debate and therefore gets all the advertising revenue derived from watching it.

I strongly suspect the ENTIRE event was designed to raise money for Ken Ham's creation museum, which (although you may strongly disagree with his point of view) you will be unwittingly help fund by watching the video on YouTube or Viemo.

If you really want to see Ham get his ass handed to him by Bill Nye the Science Guy you can read the transcript for the entire debate here: http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/video/bill-nye-ken-ham-scenes-great-creation-debate-22404825
